Supra Belt Tensioner Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Toyota Supra IV is experiencing issues with the belt tensioner, suspected to be the root of the problem. The issue manifests as constant noise that increases with acceleration. A suggestion was made to check the idler pulley, as it can sometimes seize and affect the tensioner. The recommended solution is to have the tensioner checked and potentially replaced by a professional to prevent further complications.

Thanks for the tip! The noise is pretty constant, but gets louder when I accelerate. What exactly did you end up doing to fix yours?

Sounds super familiar. I suspected the tensioner, but honestly, messing with belts without the right tools can be a pain. So, I took mine to a workshop. They confirmed it was indeed the belt tensioner and replaced it. Best to get it checked out properly to avoid further issues.

Appreciate the insight! Took it to the shop, and you were spot on – bad belt tensioner. Cost me about 455€ to get it sorted. Runs like a dream now!

I had a similar issue. The belt started squealing like crazy, and engine performance took a hit. Check your idler pulley too; sometimes they seize and cause belt tensioner problems. Is the engine noise constant, or does it change with RPM?
