Supra IV no start
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Toyota Supra IV with a gasoline engine is experiencing a no-start issue, suspected to be due to poor battery cable connections. Another owner with a similar problem suggests that the issue could also be related to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) malfunction. The recommendation is to have a professional diagnose the problem, which ultimately confirms a bad connection as the cause. The issue is resolved after the workshop addresses the faulty connection.

Thanks for the quick reply. Engine surge is not something I have noticed. How did you find out what was the issue?

In my case, the symptoms were intermittent at first, then became permanent. The car would sometimes start, sometimes not. Eventually, I had to take it to a workshop to get the ECU diagnosed. I would advise you do the same, and let a professional check the cable connections. That way, you'll be sure of the fault.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. Turns out you were right. It was indeed a bad connection, which they sorted out. Repair cost was 155€. Cheers!

I own a Supra IV and had a similar issue a while back. 'Engine control malfunction' could point to several things, not just battery cables. The ECU (Engine Control Unit), which is essentially the brain of your engine, might be failing to communicate properly. Have you noticed any other symptoms, like engine surge or issues with fuel injection?
