SupraIV Active Hood Fault

Hey, I'm getting an "Active hood fault" message on the dash of my 2001 Toyota Supra IV with a gasoline engine, and the airbag warning light is constantly on. The ECU's throwing a code related to the active hood system. Mileage is at 101889 km. Has anyone else run into this? I'm thinking it might be a faulty acceleration sensor, possibly due to the spring actuators being triggered. Any ideas before I start tearing things apart?

Yeah, I've seen that active hood fault a few times. The acceleration sensors are a common culprit. Before you replace it, double check the wiring and connectors to the sensor itself. Corrosion or a loose connection can cause the same symptoms. Also, did anything happen recently that might have triggered the system, like a hard bump or near miss? That could give you a clue.

Thanks for the tip on the wiring, I'll definitely check that first. No bumps or incidents lately, it just started happening out of the blue. Where exactly is the acceleration sensor located? Is it part of the airbag control module, or a separate unit?

It's usually a separate unit, mounted near the front of the car, often behind the bumper. Some models have one on each side. Its purpose is crash detection. Given that it's throwing a fault and the airbag light is on, I would recommend getting it professionally diagnosed if the wiring checks out OK. Messing with the airbag system can be risky.

Thanks. I checked the wiring, and it all seems solid. I took it to a shop. They confirmed it was a defective acceleration sensor. Cost me 315€ all in, but at least it's sorted.
