SupraIV Overheating Air Flap Fault

I have a 2001 Toyota SupraIV with a gasoline engine. The check engine light is on, and the engine is overheating. A scan shows an active air flap fault. I suspect the electromechanism. Has anyone seen this?

I don't own a Supra, but I had something similar with my Toyota Celica. The check engine light and overheating are concerning. It sounds like the active air flap might be the issue. Have you noticed any changes in fuel efficiency or engine performance alongside the overheating? How's the engine temperature under different driving?

I haven't watched fuel efficiency closely, but I have seen a slight decrease in engine performance, especially at lower speeds. The overheating seems worst when idling or in stop-and-go traffic. What was the issue with your Celica's cooling?

The decreased performance at lower speeds reinforces the active air flap suspicion. With my Celica, the symptoms were almost identical – check engine light, overheating during idling, and sluggish low-end performance. The active air flap motor had failed, preventing the grille shutter from opening and closing properly. I'd take it to a workshop for a thorough inspection. It's likely the electromechanism needs replacing, and they can confirm and give an estimate.

Thanks for the insight. Given the symptoms and your recommendation, I'll schedule a workshop appointment for an assessment. The estimated repair cost is about 590€.
