Suzuki GrandVitara Stalling: Fuel Pressure Sensor Alert

Running into issues with my 2006 Suzuki GrandVitara diesel (148797 km). The engine keeps stalling at idle and theres noticeable power loss. Check engine light is on. I suspect a faulty fuel rail pressure sensor based on the symptoms. Has anyone dealt with similar engine performance problems on these models? Looking for advice on reliable repair options since my last mechanic experience wasnt great.

Had the same rail pressure sensor issue on my 2009 Suzuki SX4 diesel last season. The symptoms matched exactly, engine stalling at idle and significant power loss during acceleration. The sensor signal was inconsistent, causing the fuel pressure to fluctuate unpredictably. The repair required replacing both the fuel rail pressure sensor and cleaning the fuel system. This was essential since contaminated fuel had contributed to the sensor failure. The diesel engine needed a complete diagnostic scan to rule out other potential causes. This is considered a serious issue since incorrect fuel pressure readings can lead to engine damage if left unaddressed. The faulty sensor affects the entire fuel delivery system, and continued driving risks damage to the injection system. The repair process involved: Full system diagnostic, Fuel rail pressure sensor replacement, Fuel system cleaning, Sensor calibration, Test drive to confirm proper engine operation After the repair, the engine stalling completely stopped and power was fully restored. The check engine light cleared and fuel efficiency improved noticeably.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had these exact symptoms with my GrandVitara last winter. The fuel rail pressure sensor replacement fixed my issues completely. The engine runs smoothly now and no power loss anymore. Can you share how much the repair cost in your case? Also curious if youve had any recurring problems with the fuel injection system since the fix?

Good to hear your GrandVitara is running well after the sensor replacement. In my case, the total repair cost was 240€ for the rail pressure sensor replacement on my SX4. This included the diagnostic work and sensor calibration. No recurring problems with the fuel injection system since the fix. The fuel pressure readings have remained stable and the engine performance stays consistent. The sensor signal works perfectly now, which keeps the fuel delivery system running as it should. Just make sure to use quality fuel and keep up with regular maintenance to prevent future sensor failures. The new pressure sensor should last many years if the fuel system stays clean.

Found a reliable mechanic who diagnosed the issue correctly. Total cost came to 280€ which included parts and labor. The fuel rail pressure sensor was replaced and they performed a thorough fuel system cleaning. The repair process took about 3 hours. The mechanic showed me the old sensor, it was quite corroded. Since the fix, engine performance has improved dramatically. No more stalling at idle and power delivery is smooth again. The check engine light cleared right after the sensor calibration. Thanks for all the helpful input. Having dealt with this issue firsthand, I can confirm the fuel rail pressure sensor is a common failure point that affects engine performance significantly. Glad to have it sorted properly this time.
