T-Cross Engine Warning: PCV Failure Warning Signs

My check engine light started flashing and I noticed thick smoke coming from the exhaust during acceleration. Engine feels weak and sluggish. Pretty sure it might be the crankcase ventilation system acting up. Mechanic gave me trouble last time, so I am hesitant to go back. Anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their T-Cross? Mine is a 2022 gasoline model with about 93000km on it. Wondering about repair costs and if I should try a different shop.

Had similar issues with my 2019 VW Taigo with the 1.0 TSI engine. The symptoms matched exactly, rough idle, drop in power, and white smoke from exhaust. The crankcase ventilation valve was completely clogged, causing excessive pressure in the system. The maintenance required complete replacement of the PCV valve and cleaning of the intake manifold. This was not a quick fix job, the entire valve cover needed removal to access the ventilation system components. The clog was causing oil to get pushed into places it should not be, affecting emissions and engine performance. This is a serious issue that needs immediate attention. Continuing to drive with faulty crankcase ventilation can lead to oil contamination, increased engine wear, and potential internal damage. The check engine light flashing typically indicates active misfires, which can damage the catalytic converter if ignored. Finding a shop that specializes in VW repairs would be advisable. The repair requires specific diagnostic equipment and experience with TSI engines to properly verify the ventilation system operation after replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I can confirm this ventilation valve issue is quite common, had it on my T-Cross last spring with almost identical symptoms. The emissions problem cleared up completely after the PCV replacement and the engine runs like new again. Would be helpful to know what repair costs you ended up paying at your shop? In my case the valve replacement plus labor took about 4 hours of work, but prices seem to vary quite a bit. Also curious if youve had any related problems pop up since the repair was done? Sometimes these crankcase issues can point to other maintenance needs.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. The crankcase ventilation valve replacement came to 360€ total at my shop, which included parts and labor. Since fixing the faulty PCV valve, the engine has been running perfectly with no emissions issues or check engine warnings. The idle is smooth, power delivery is back to normal, and there is zero smoke from the exhaust. The repair actually resolved all the problems, no other maintenance was needed afterwards. The mechanic did a thorough job cleaning the intake system while replacing the valve, which likely helped prevent any related issues from developing. Its been about 8 months now and the engine continues performing great with proper crankcase ventilation. For anyone else reading, getting this fixed promptly is crucial. A bad PCV valve can lead to much costlier repairs if left unaddressed. The 360€ I spent was well worth preventing potential engine damage.

Appreciate all the feedback and advice everyone. Finally got this sorted at a new shop that specializes in European vehicles. The total repair came to 420€ including parts and labor, bit more than others paid but the service was excellent. The leak from the crankcase system was worse than expected. They found the PCV valve completely failed and some oil residue had built up in the intake. Took them about 5 hours total to clean everything and replace the damaged components. The thick smoke and emissions issues disappeared immediately after the repair. What impressed me most was their thorough inspection and explanation of the maintenance work needed. They showed me the clogged valve and walked through exactly how it affected engine performance. Engine runs perfectly now, no more flashing check engine light or power loss during acceleration. Definitely glad I switched repair shops. The previous mechanic had missed diagnosing this common issue entirely. For anyone facing similar symptoms, dont hesitate to get a second opinion from a specialist who knows these engines well.
