T-Cross Oil Pressure Warning + Engine Knock After Service

Just noticed my oil pressure warning coming on along with concerning engine knocking sounds in my 2019 VW T-Cross (gasoline, 13789km). Engine oil was changed recently at a shop I dont trust anymore. Anyone experienced similar low oil pressure issues with their T-Cross? Bit worried about potential engine bearing damage and looking for advice before picking a new mechanic.

Had this exact issue on my 2016 VW Polo TSI. The oil pressure warning combined with knocking sounds points to a serious problem that needs immediate attention. When my oil pump failed, the engine bearings started getting insufficient lubrication, causing those knocking sounds. The oil pressure sensor correctly warned of dangerously low oil pressure. This is a critical situation because continuing to drive risks catastrophic engine damage. These symptoms match what you describe, especially concerning after a recent oil change. The shop might have used incorrect oil grade or the oil pump could be failing. In my case, the oil pump had a manufacturing defect that caused pressure loss. The repair required: Complete oil pump replacement, New engine bearings, Full system flush, Pressure testing This was a major repair job requiring engine disassembly. Given how serious oil pressure issues are for engine longevity, recommend stopping driving immediately and having it towed to a certified VW specialist. The knocking sounds indicate the bearings may already be compromised. Getting this diagnosed quickly is crucial before more extensive engine damage occurs.

Thanks for sharing that info about the oil pump failure. My knocking sounds turned out to be caused by oil leakage near the timing chain area causing low oil pressure. Getting it fixed was crucial since it also damaged some bearings. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? My garage bill was quite high at around 2800€ but that included replacing worn bearings. Also curious if you had any recurring oil pressure sensor warnings since the repair?

Since having the oil pump replaced by my mechanic, the engine oil pressure has remained consistently normal with no warning lights. The repair cost came to 755€ which covered diagnosing and fixing the defective oil pump. This was considerably less than your repair since my bearings hadnt sustained damage yet. The oil pressure gauge now shows perfect readings and the engine runs smoothly. Quick action prevented more extensive issues that could have required bearing replacement like in your case. After the repair, I also made sure to get an oil pressure sensor check during routine maintenance, but everything has stayed problem-free. Getting the faulty oil pump addressed immediately really saved me from facing the more extensive bearing damage and higher costs you encountered. Regular oil changes and pressure monitoring since then have kept the engine running optimally.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. After noticing those scary knocking sounds, I actually stopped driving immediately and had the car towed to a certified VW workshop. Really glad I did because they found significant oil leakage by the timing chain that was starving the engine of proper oil pressure. The repair involved replacing the damaged engine bearings and fixing the leak. Total bill came to 2800€ which hurt the wallet but was worth it to save the engine. The mechanic showed me the worn bearings and explained how the oil pressure drop had caused the damage. Since the repair two months ago, the oil pressure has been perfect with no warning lights. Got it checked again last week just to be safe. The engine now runs smooth and quiet like it should. Lesson learned about taking oil pressure warnings seriously right away.
