T-Roc ABS Light: Lateral Sensor Fault Experiences

Anyone else had their ABS light come on with lateral sensor problems? My T-Roc (2020, gas engine, 60485km) started showing ABS issues last week. Already had a diagnostic scan done that points to the lateral sensor, but my last mechanic visit wasnt great so Im looking for feedback. Anyone dealt with this and can share what the actual problem and fix was? Want to be better prepared before taking it to a shop.

My 2017 VW Tiguan had similar symptoms last year. The ABS warning appeared along with traction control issues. A diagnostic scan confirmed problems with the lateral sensor and yaw rate signals. The actual issue turned out to be a faulty G85 steering angle sensor combined with a deteriorated wiring harness. The electronic stability system relies heavily on accurate input from these components to function properly. The affected control unit was showing incorrect data readings, which triggered the ABS system to malfunction. The repair required replacing both the steering angle sensor and the associated wiring harness. This was definitely a serious issue since it impacted multiple safety systems including ABS, traction control, and electronic stability control. The repair process took about 6 hours as the technicians needed to access components behind the steering column. After replacement, they performed a complete system calibration and reset. The warning lights cleared immediately and all stability systems returned to normal operation. Worth mentioning that postponing repairs could lead to complete failure of these safety systems, so its best to address it promptly.

That sounds exactly like what happened with my T-Roc last summer. Had those same safety warning lights pop up and my vehicle stability systems were acting weird. The mechanic also found issues with the G85 sensor and wiring. Good to hear someone else confirm this fix worked. How much did the repair end up costing you? And have you had any issues since the sensor replacement? Mine has been running fine but always good to know what to watch out for with these electronic stability systems.

After getting the repair done on my Tiguan, everything has been working perfectly with no recurring issues. The traction control and electronic stability systems are functioning exactly as they should. The mechanic found and fixed the lateral acceleration sensor fault completely. The total repair came to 1000€ for replacing the affected control unit that was defective. Definitely worth the investment since these vehicle stability systems are crucial safety features. The steering angle sensor is now providing accurate readings and all warning lights have stayed off. Its been over 8 months now and no problems have returned. The electronic control systems are responding normally during both regular driving and when road conditions are challenging. If your T-Roc repair was similar to mine, you should be good to go without any future sensor-related issues.

Thanks for the feedback. Took it to a new shop yesterday and had almost the exact same experience. The diagnostic scan showed the lateral sensor needed replacing, plus some wiring work. Total bill came to 950€ which sounds right based on what you paid. The mechanic was much better this time, showed me the old damaged parts and explained how the electronic stability system works with the sensors. Really helped me understand why the repair was needed. They had it done in about 5 hours. Took it for a test drive after and all the safety warning lights are gone. ABS is working perfectly now and the steering feels more responsive. Good to know youve had no issues since your repair. Gives me confidence this fix will last.
