T-Roc Electronic Parking Brake Failure at 97k

My electronic parking brake stopped working suddenly and the warning light came on. Even after resetting the brake sensor, the issue persists. The car shows an error code related to the parking brake system. Currently at 97592km on my 2021 T-Roc 1.5 TSI. Has anyone experienced a similar brake failure? Looking for advice before heading back to the mechanic, as my last service experience wasnt great and I want to be prepared. Any insights on common causes or repair costs would be helpful.

Summary of the thread

The electronic parking brake on a 2021 T-Roc failed at 97,592 km, with a warning light and error code indicating a system issue. The problem was identified as a faulty electric motor in the brake caliper unit, a common cause of such failures. The solution involved replacing the defective motor, calibrating the new components, and conducting a full system reset and testing. After repair, the brake system functioned correctly, resolving the initial failure symptoms.

Had the exact same brake failure symptoms on my 2018 VW Golf 1.4 TSI. The system glitch turned out to be a faulty electric motor in the brake caliper unit. The brake switch and entire electronic parking brake mechanism needed replacement. The vehicle safety system detected the issue correctly through the error code. It was a serious problem that required immediate attention, as the parking brake could potentially engage or disengage unexpectedly. The repair involved: Complete diagnosis of the brake sensor system, Replacement of the electronic brake caliper motor, Calibration of the new parking brake components, Full system reset and testing This is not a DIY fix, it requires specialized diagnostic equipment and proper calibration tools. The brake failure symptoms you describe match precisely what happened in my case, indicating your electronic parking brake actuator has likely failed. The good news is that once properly repaired, the system works flawlessly. Would strongly recommend having this checked at a garage with experience in VW electronic parking brake systems.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Its helpful to know the root cause was the brake caliper unit motor. I am having similar brake control issues with my T-Roc. The brake diagnostics also point to the electronic brake system. Did you remember the total repair cost? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since the fix? Knowing what to expect at the garage would really help me prepare.

Just wanted to update that I took my Golf to the dealership last week for the brake fault issues I mentioned. After running complete brake diagnostics, they confirmed what I suspected, the electric motor in the brake caliper was defective and needed replacement. Total repair cost came to 505€, which included the new motor unit, labor, and complete system calibration. The brake control system is now working perfectly with no warning lights or error codes. Since having it fixed 6 months ago, I havent experienced any recurring issues with the electronic parking brake. The repair completely resolved the initial brake failure symptoms. The system engages smoothly and the brake sensor readings are all normal. Based on the similar brake fault codes youre seeing on your T-Roc, you can likely expect comparable repair requirements and costs. Make sure the garage performs a full system calibration after replacing any components to ensure proper brake control functionality.

Thank you everyone for the helpful replies. I took my T-Roc to a certified VW workshop yesterday. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the faulty brake caliper motor causing the electronic brake failure. The total repair came to 580€, slightly more than expected but worth it for peace of mind. The repair process involved: Complete brake system diagnostic scan, Replacement of the faulty electronic brake motor, Full calibration of the new components, Testing of all brake control functions The brake fault warning disappeared immediately after the fix and the parking brake now works perfectly. The brake sensor readings are all back to normal. While the cost was higher than hoped, having a properly functioning electronic brake system is essential for safety. Much appreciated all the guidance, it helped me know exactly what to expect at the garage and ensure they did a thorough job fixing the brake control issue.
