T-Roc Rough Acceleration & Misfires Point to Bad Coils

My T-Roc (2018, gas engine, 93510km) started running really rough lately with power loss and jerking during acceleration. The check engine light popped up too. Seems like engine misfiring based on symptoms. Had a bad experience with mechanics before, so looking for advice on what could be causing this and if anyone dealt with similar issues. Could it be ignition coils or something more serious? Need recommendations on what to check first and roughly what repairs might cost.

Summary of the thread

The T-Roc experienced rough acceleration and misfires, with symptoms suggesting engine misfiring. The potential causes identified were faulty ignition coils or fuel system issues. Recommendations included conducting a diagnostic scan to check ignition coil function and inspecting the fuel injectors. The resolution involved replacing a bad fuel pump and a faulty ignition coil, leading to smooth engine performance and resolving the misfire issue.

A similar issue occurred with my Golf GTI 2015 gasoline engine. The symptoms matched exactly, rough idle, cylinder misfire during acceleration, and inconsistent throttle response. The diagnostic revealed a faulty fuel injector which was causing incomplete combustion. The issue requires immediate attention since bad injectors can lead to catalytic converter damage and increased fuel consumption. In my case, one fuel injector was completely clogged, while another showed signs of wear. The repair involved: 1. Full diagnostic scan to confirm ignition coil function 2. Fuel injector testing and cleaning 3. Replacement of two defective injectors 4. System pressure testing 5. Computer reset and adaptation This is considered a serious repair that should be handled by a qualified workshop. The symptoms you describe, especially the rough running and power loss, strongly indicate either a fuel injector problem or ignition coil failure. The check engine light typically stores specific error codes that will pinpoint whether its the injection or ignition system. Suggest getting the error codes read first before any work begins. Modern fuel injection systems are complex, and proper diagnosis is essential before replacing parts.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the GTI. My T-Roc had similar issues last spring, rough idle and the check engine light would come on during acceleration. The cylinder misfire was quite noticeable, especially when cold. Turned out my fuel pump was failing and one ignition coil needed replacement. Since fixing it, the engine runs perfectly smooth with no more power loss or jerking. Would you mind sharing what the final repair cost was for your injector work? Just curious about the price comparison, as fuel system repairs can vary quite a bit. Has everything stayed good since the repair or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Had the work done on the GTI last month and glad to report no more combustion misfires since then. The engine runs perfectly smooth now and performance is back to normal. The main culprit was definitely the defective fuel injector that was causing incomplete fuel delivery. Total cost came to 515€ which covered the diagnostic, replacing the faulty injector, and system testing. Seems like a fair price considering the complexity of modern fuel injection systems. Cylinder misfire codes completely cleared after the repair and haven't returned. No other issues have emerged since the fix. The importance of addressing these problems quickly really showed, catching failing injectors early helps prevent damage to other engine components. The shop did a thorough job testing the ignition coils and remaining injectors to ensure everything was working properly.

Thanks for all the feedback. After dealing with the constant check engine light and rough running, I finally got my T-Roc fixed last week. The mechanic identified the bad fuel pump and faulty ignition coil right away using their diagnostic equipment. Total repair came to 680€ including parts and labor. Bit more than expected but the engine runs perfectly now, no more jerking or power loss during acceleration. The combustion misfire is completely gone and throttle response feels smooth again. The shop also inspected the fuel injectors and remaining coils while they were in there, confirming everything else was in good shape. Really glad I got it sorted before any additional damage occurred. Will definitely keep a closer eye on maintenance intervals going forward to hopefully prevent similar issues. Time to close this thread since the problem is resolved. Thanks again for helping point me in the right direction with the diagnosis.
