Tacoma Hybrid Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Toyota Tacoma Hybrid with 65,162 km is experiencing poor starting, engine stalling at idle, and a check engine light. The issue may be related to a faulty camshaft sensor, potentially caused by a defective encoder wheel on the camshafts. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired at a workshop, which successfully resolved the problem.

Thanks. How do I check the camshaft position? Need a special tool? Think a bad camshaft sensor is the problem, or could it be something else?

In my case, the encoder wheel on the camshafts was faulty. That made the camshaft sensor go bad, causing the same issues you're seeing. Can't really walk you through the process, it's a bit complex. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop.

Appreciate the help. Took it to a workshop, and you were right, the camshaft sensor was bad, probably because of the encoder wheel like you said. Cost 695€ to fix. Thanks again; your insight was a big help.

Sounds familiar. I own a Tacoma too. Is the engine misfiring? Have you checked the camshaft position? Could be something with the engine control or ignition timing.
