Tacoma NOx Catalyst Aging
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Toyota Tacoma owner experienced a check engine light and diagnostics indicated an issue with the NOx storage catalyst aging. The owner suspected an exhaust leak might be the cause. Another Tacoma owner shared a similar experience, suggesting that the exhaust leak could indeed affect the NOx catalyst. The solution involved taking the vehicle to a certified repair facility, where the exhaust leak was confirmed and repaired.

Thanks for sharing. Could you be more specific about where the exhaust leak was in your case, and if the error code was specifically about the NOx storage catalyst?

Right, well, I'm no mechanic, so I can't say for sure where it was leaking. I just knew something was up when I saw the light and smelled exhaust. The shop told me it was something to do with the NOx catalyst and a leak. Seriously, just take it to a trusted workshop. They'll figure it out way faster than we can here.

I appreciate you confirming a similar experience. I took it to a certified repair facility, like you said. They confirmed an exhaust leak affecting the NOx catalyst, and it cost 265€ to fix. Thanks for the input.

Whoa, that sounds familiar! I drive a Tacoma too (though, not a 2021), and had almost the EXACT same thing happen last year. Check engine light, exhaust smell... nightmare! Any idea where the leak is? That NOx stuff is all tied into the emissions system, right?
