Tacuma rough running and exhaust leak
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Chevrolet Tacuma is experiencing rough running and an exhaust leak, with the check engine light illuminated. The issues could be related to the particulate filter or EGR valve, but a suggestion points to a faulty lambda sensor affecting the air/fuel mixture and exhaust system. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle diagnosed by a mechanic, who confirmed the lambda sensor and exhaust manifold gasket needed replacement.

Thanks for the quick answer! I'm not super familiar with the lambda sensor. Is it easy to check, or do I need special tools?

Well, you can visually inspect it for damage, but you'll need an OBD2 scanner to read the sensor data for any error codes, and a multimeter to properly test it. If you have an exhaust leak it could also be the exhaust manifold gasket. Honestly, given the exhaust leak and rough running, and unless you have the tools already, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it diagnosed properly.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I think I'll take it to the mechanic, since I don't have those tools. They confirmed it was indeed the lambda sensor, and the exhaust manifold gasket needed doing too. Total cost was 375€.

Hey, I also have a Tacuma, though not the same year. Sounds like your lambda sensor might be the culprit. When that goes, the engine runs poorly because the air/fuel mixture is off, and it can mess with the exhaust system. I had similar symptoms. Did you check the sensor?
