Tahoe Electrical Malfunction Navigation Failure

I'm having trouble with my 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe, gasoline engine. The error memory has stored an error, and I'm experiencing a general electrical malfunction along with a completely non-functional navigation system. The mileage is currently at 99862 km. It seems like the control unit programming is implausible. Has anyone else run into something similar with this generation of Tahoe?

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe experienced a general electrical malfunction and a non-functional navigation system, with an error indicating implausible control unit programming. Possible causes included software issues or electrical faults. Suggested solutions involved disconnecting the battery to reset systems and reinstalling the software, which required specialized tools. Ultimately, a workshop reinstalled the software, resolving the issues.

That sounds like a real headache. Electrical issues can be tricky. When you say "general electrical malfunction," what exactly are you seeing? Are any lights flickering, or is anything else behaving oddly besides the navigation? Could be something simple, or it could be pointing directly at your suspicion of a software problem. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while to see if it resets anything?

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the electrical malfunction, it's intermittent. Sometimes the interior lights will dim or flicker, and I've noticed the radio cutting out momentarily. Disconnecting the battery - how long should I leave it disconnected? Also, I'm thinking about trying to reinstall the software. Do you know if that can be done at home, or is a specialized tool needed?

Okay, intermittent issues are the worst to diagnose. As for the battery, leaving it disconnected for about 30 minutes should be enough to reset things. Regarding the software, while some manufacturers allow for over-the-air reinstalls, given the age of your Tahoe, I highly doubt that's an option. Doing a proper recalibration of the control unit requires specific diagnostic tools and software. It's probably best to take it to a reputable workshop.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate you confirming my suspicion about the software. I booked an appointment with a workshop, and indeed, the programming of the control unit was implausible as suspected and they reinstalled the software. The error memory is empty now, the electrical issues are gone, and the navigation system is working again. The repair cost 240€. It's good to have it resolved.
