Tahoe Throttle Valve Defect
Summary of the thread
The conversation centers around a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe experiencing high fuel consumption and difficulty starting, suspected to be due to a throttle valve or accelerator pedal module issue. The problem is further characterized by erratic engine idling. A suggestion is made to check for diagnostic trouble codes using an OBD2 scanner to pinpoint the issue. Ultimately, a professional diagnosis confirms a defective accelerator pedal module, leading to its replacement.

Yes, now that you mention it, the engine is idling somewhat erratically. I neglected to mention this. Regarding these 'codes,' what are they, and how do I find them?

If the idle's rough and the fuel consumption's up, it's pointing towards the throttle valve or its sensor. Those codes are diagnostic trouble codes. You'll need an OBD2 scanner to read them. Honestly, with those symptoms, I'd take it to a workshop. Could be the pedal module, could be something else related to the throttle. Best to get it diagnosed properly.

Your counsel was prescient. I consulted a shop, and their assessment corroborated my suspicions: a defective accelerator pedal module. The repair, including replacement, was 205€.

That's weird. I had a similar issue with my old Saab 9-5: rough engine idle and terrible fuel efficiency. I suspected vacuum leaks at first, cleaned the throttle body, checked all the usual stuff. Turned out to be a faulty throttle position sensor. Is your engine idling funny? Any codes?
