Talisman EGR Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Renault Talisman with a gasoline engine is experiencing issues such as rough running, increased fuel consumption, smoke during acceleration, and a loud hissing noise, accompanied by a check engine light. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the EGR valve, which may be defective or jammed. The recommended solution is to have the EGR valve checked and possibly replaced at a workshop to prevent further damage.

The catalytic converter was my first thought too! But the hissing sound is what's throwing me off. Vehicle emissions are definitely up, stinking! Rough idle is a yes. Was the hissing there for you too, or was it more of a smooth decline into engine misery?

Okay, the hissing seals it for me. Mine hissed like a grumpy snake when accelerating. I nursed it for a bit, but honestly, you're probably looking at a defective or jammed EGR valve. Get it checked at the workshop before it causes more damage. Trust me on this one!

Right, EGR valve it is then! Thanks a bunch for confirming my suspicions! Booked it into the workshop, and you were spot on – 355€ later and it's purring like a kitten again. Appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar! I have a Talisman as well, and I went through something similar a while back. Reduced power, check engine light... Does it feel like a clogged catalytic converter? I initially thought it was that, but the symptoms sound like what I experienced. Did you check the vehicle emissions? What about rough idle?
