Talisman exhaust back pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Renault Talisman diesel with 129,000 km is experiencing an exhaust back pressure sensor warning light and smoke during acceleration, indicating potential issues with the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) not regenerating. A similar case was resolved by replacing the defective exhaust back pressure sensor, which restored proper DPF function and eliminated the smoke. It is recommended to have the sensor checked and possibly replaced by a professional to address the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't had the exhaust sensor checked specifically. I just assumed it was something else at first. Did changing the sensor fix the issue for you completely, or were there other things you had to do?

Yeah, for me, changing the exhaust back pressure sensor sorted everything out. The symptoms you described are exactly what I experienced. I'd strongly suggest getting it checked at a workshop. If it is the sensor, the part itself isn't crazy expensive, but you might want a professional to install it. Cost me around 245€ all in.

Great, thanks for the info! I'll take it to the shop and ask them to check the exhaust sensor first thing. Hopefully, that's all it is. Fingers crossed!

Sounds familiar! I've got a Renault Talisman too, and I had a similar issue a while back. Was the exhaust back pressure sensor ever checked? It could be defective, preventing the DPF from regenerating properly and causing the smoke. Have you noticed any performance issues besides the smoke and warning light?
