Thanks for the quick response! The exhaust back pressure sensor, huh? Where is that located? Is it something I could check myself, or is it best left to a mechanic? How did you figure out that was the problem?

The sensor is usually located near the DPF. While you could try to check it yourself, you'll likely need a diagnostic tool to confirm if it's faulty. Given the symptoms – the warning light, reduced power, and smoke – I'd strongly recommend getting it checked by a professional with the right tools. DPF regeneration problems are nasty if left untreated.

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to the workshop today, and they confirmed it was indeed the exhaust back pressure sensor. The final repair cost was 245€. Replacing it seems to have solved the issues. No more smoke, the engine power is back, and the exhaust smell is gone. Really appreciate the help!

Sounds familiar. I've got a Talisman too, and I had similar symptoms not too long ago: reduced power, smoke. Have you checked your exhaust system? In my case, it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. That's the first thing I'd investigate.
