Talisman immobilizer issue

I have a 2019 Renault Talisman, gasoline engine, with about 160k km on it. The car is practically unusable due to what I suspect is an immobilizer problem. The engine either doesn't start at all, or starts for a second and then dies. There is an error stored in the ECU. Could this be a security light issue? Anyone have similar issues with the anti-theft system?

That sounds incredibly frustrating! I have a Renault Talisman myself. I had a similar issue a while back. Have you tried checking the key programming? It might be that the key isn't being recognized properly by the ignition control system. Is the security light behaving erratically?

Yeah, it's driving me nuts! The security light is on solid. How did you determine that your key programming was incorrect? I'm not even sure how to check that. Is there a way to bypass the car immobilizer?

Well, in my case the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and the car refused to acknowledge the key at all, but I understand your frustration. I am familiar with how troublesome car immobilizers could be. I'm no expert, but I ended up taking it to a workshop. They reprogrammed the key for a small fee, and it solved the issue.

Okay, I appreciate the insight. A workshop visit sounds like the next step. Just got the car back. They ran some diagnostics and reprogrammed the key. Cost me 45€, but at least it's running again!
