Talisman tailgate hall sensor fault

My 2019 Renault Talisman diesel with 248665 km has an automatic tailgate fault. It doesn't open completely, and the error memory shows a hall sensor fault. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm dreading the repair costs, though I've heard it could be around 95€.

I have a Talisman as well, and your issue sounds awfully familiar. When you say it doesn't open completely, does it stop at a certain point, or does it struggle the entire way? Have you checked the sensor wiring for any obvious damage, like frayed wires or loose connectors? Sometimes, the simplest things are the culprit. The hall sensor is what tells the tailgate motor where it is in its range of motion. When it fails, the tailgate can't determine how far it needs to open. I would start by checking all the connections related to the sensor.

Thank you for your reply. It stops roughly halfway. I inspected the wiring harness, but it's difficult to trace everything without dismantling half the car. Did you have the exact same symptoms, and if so, how did you resolve it?

Yes, that was exactly what happened to mine. I spent an afternoon checking everything as I am not a mechanic. Unfortunately, in my case, it was indeed the sensor, but I didn't feel confident enough to start calibration or sensor wiring on my own. I ended up taking it to a workshop. They confirmed the sensor fault and replaced it. So if you aren't sure, maybe a workshop can help.

I appreciate the confirmation. It seems a trip to the workshop is unavoidable. I hoped it would be a simple fix, but given your experience, it's likely the sensor itself. I'll post the resolution once it's sorted.
