Talisman VANOS Solenoid Issue

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't noticed any significant power loss, to be honest. The oil level is fine, and I changed it recently, so I doubt that's the issue. Was it a straightforward fix for you?

I attempted a replacement, but ran into some snags and ended up taking it to a workshop. Honestly, unless you have the specific tools and know the exact torque specs for everything, it's probably best to let a professional handle it. It could be more than just the solenoid, and messing with the timing chain can be a nightmare if you're not careful. It's worth the peace of mind.

Appreciate the advice. Sounds like a trip to the workshop is in order. I'll get them to check the camshaft solenoid valves and power supply, as suggested. The repair cost was around 250€ including parts and labour. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

Interesting, I had a similar issue with my Talisman, though I didn't get the fuel consumption increase. Check Engine light was on constantly. VANOS solenoid was the culprit for me too. Did you notice any low power, especially at low RPMs? That's what led me to suspect variable timing issues. I remember reading something about BMW VANOS and how similar systems can be sensitive to oil quality and pressure. Have you checked your oil levels recently?
