Tank vent valve defect symptoms Opel Astra petrol engine 1.6L

Hello everyone, I have recently started having problems with my Opel Astra, built in 2012, with a gasoline engine. The symptoms are: Check engine light, loss of power, rough engine, jerking when accelerating, stalling at idle and vibrating at idle. I suspect it is the fuel tank ventilation system. Have any of you had similar experiences and how did you solve the problem? What did the garage do? Thanks for your help!

Summary of the thread

An Opel Astra with a 1.6L petrol engine is experiencing issues such as a check engine light, loss of power, rough idling, and stalling. The suspected cause is a defect in the fuel tank ventilation system, possibly due to clogged hoses or malfunctioning valves. A similar case with an Opel Corsa was resolved by cleaning or replacing the hoses in the tank ventilation system. It is recommended to have the garage thoroughly inspect this system and consider checking the ignition coils or fuel pump if the problem persists.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar problems with my Opel Corsa, built in 2014 (so 2 years younger), also with a gasoline engine. I only have a little experience with cars, but my symptoms were almost exactly the same as yours - check engine light, loss of power, bumpy engine, etc. In my case it was due to clogged hoses in the tank ventilation system. The garage checked the hoses and cleaned or replaced them. It cost me a total of 175 euros. After that, the Corsa ran like clockwork again. If I were you, I would definitely have the garage check the tank ventilation system. It could also be the cause in your case. Can you perhaps say a bit more about the condition of your car? Mileage or recent maintenance? Maybe I can think of something else that might help. Regards,

Hey, thanks for your answer! My Astra currently has 157239 km on it, was last serviced a month ago. Had hoped that they would find the problem, but nothing. I will definitely have the hoses in the tank ventilation system checked, sounds like a good tip! Best regards,

Hey, no problem, happy to help! With the mileage, wear and tear on other parts could also play a role, but the tank ventilation system definitely seems like a good place to start. If the garage didn't find anything during the inspection, it could be that the hoses are only partially clogged or that the valves there aren't working properly. I would tell them exactly how it is and insist that they check everything thoroughly. If it's not the tank ventilation system after all, perhaps the ignition coils or the fuel pump could also be checked. These also often cause problems with such symptoms. Hopefully this will help you and you'll get your Astra back in shape soon! Let us know what you find out. Best regards,
