Taos Cooling Sensor Fault Triggers AC & Engine Issues

My Taos cooling system is acting up. The engine cooling warning light came on with an error message in the dash, plus the AC stopped working completely. The onboard computer shows a temperature sensor fault at the heat exchanger. Running a 2022 model with just over 106000km. Had some questionable work done at my last mechanic visit, so not too eager to return there. Has anyone dealt with similar HVAC system issues? Really want to know if this is a serious problem that needs immediate attention or if I can drive it for a bit while finding a trustworthy shop. What was the repair cost in your case?

The temperature sensor fault triggered both engine cooling warnings and disabled the AC, quite common when the sensor calibration fails at the heat exchanger. This requires immediate attention since incorrect temperature readings can lead to engine overheating risks. My vehicle maintenance experience showed this wasnt just a simple sensor replacement, the entire control unit needed reprogramming after installation. I initially thought about waiting but decided against it after consulting with a certified technician. The cooling system is critical for engine protection, and driving with faulty sensors can potentially cause serious engine damage. In my case, the repair involved: Complete diagnostic scan, Replacing the faulty temperature sensor, Control unit recalibration, Testing the entire HVAC system operation The whole job took about 4 hours at the shop. While waiting for repairs, avoid long trips and monitor engine temperature closely. If the temperature gauge shows unusual readings, stop driving immediately. Took it to a recommended technician who specializes in VW cooling systems. The initial diagnosis confirmed the temperature sensor fault at the heat exchanger. They found the original sensor was actually damaged during my previous service, likely from improper installation. The repair included: New temperature sensor, Control module reprogramming, Full system testing, Cooling system pressure check Total cost came to 890€, which included parts and 3 hours labor. The vehicle maintenance report showed everything is now working correctly. Engine cooling is stable and the AC is back to normal. Really glad I didnt wait longer to fix it.
