Taurus central locking failure

Alright, car gurus, I'm at my wit's end! I've got a 2019 Ford Taurus with a gasoline engine, and the darn thing is playing tricks on me. It's got about 148k kilometers on the clock. The central locking has completely given up the ghost – I can no longer lock or unlock the doors with the remote or the button inside! I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Could it be something with the door contact signal? I'm not really sure where to start poking around. Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Ford Taurus experienced a central locking failure, where neither the remote nor the internal button could lock or unlock the doors. The issue was suspected to be related to the door contact signal or a faulty door sensor, particularly within the door latch mechanism. After checking the fuses and considering manual latch actuation, it was suggested that the problem might be a cable or plug connection issue. The recommended solution was to have a professional diagnostic scan, which confirmed a defective cable/plug connection, resolving the locking issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my Taurus. It sounds like a faulty door sensor, specifically related to the door latch mechanism. The car isn't detecting when the door is closed, which is why the automatic locks aren't working. Have you tried manually actuating the door latch with a screwdriver to see if it triggers the system?

Whoa, thanks for the quick reply! Manually actuating the door latch, huh? I haven't tried that. Where exactly is the door latch mechanism located, and what am I looking for when I poke around with the screwdriver? I'm worried about breaking something!

The door latch mechanism is integrated into the door itself, where the door connects to the car's frame. If manually moving the latch doesn't solve the issue, and you've already checked the fuses, it's likely a cable or plug connection issue within the door. Given the symptoms, I'd advise against further DIY troubleshooting, as you could risk damaging the electronics. It's probably best to take it to a workshop. A diagnostic scan should pinpoint the exact fault.

Huge thanks for the insight! I think I'll follow your advice and book it in with a mechanic. Turns out it was a defective cable/plug connection, like you said. Cost me 95€ to get it sorted, but at least the car locks again! Really appreciate the help.
