Taurus Headlight Auto-Leveling Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2009 Ford Taurus is experiencing a failure in the headlight auto-leveling system, indicated by an error message and warning light. The headlights are misaligned, pointing either too high or too low. The suspected cause is a faulty servomotor in one of the headlights. After checking the headlight switch, fuses, and connections, the issue was confirmed to be a defective servomotor, which was subsequently repaired at a workshop.

Yeah, I gave the headlight switch a once-over and checked the fuses. All seems good there. Connections look solid too, no corrosion or anything obvious. Is there a specific way to test the servomotors directly, or am I just looking for any signs of life?

Hmm, if the switch and fuses are fine, and the connections are good, it probably is the servomotor then. Honestly, auto-leveling systems can be a pain. Probably best to get it checked out by a workshop, they'll have the proper diagnostics.

Cheers. I was dreading that answer, but figured it was coming. I took it to the shop; turns out it was a defective servomotor, just like I suspected. Repair cost me 1040€. Thanks for confirming my suspicions, at least I knew what to expect.

Sounds annoying. Have you checked the headlight switch and all the connections? Maybe a fuse?
