Taurus oil pressure warning light and sensor fault

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2016 Ford Taurus, gasoline engine, at 211245 km. An error message keeps appearing in the speedometer, accompanied by a warning light, and the oil pressure warning lamp occasionally lights up. Error memory indicates a faulty oil level sensor signal. Could this be a defective sensor or something else?

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Ford Taurus owner reported an issue with an oil pressure warning light and a faulty oil level sensor signal. The problem was suspected to be caused by a defective sensor or a corroded connector. Upon inspection by a mechanic, it was confirmed that the connector was corroded, and the sensor had internal damage. The sensor was replaced, resolving the issue.

Sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series a while back. Kept getting a low oil warning even though the oil level was fine. Did you check the cable and plug connection of the sensor itself? That was my problem – a corroded connector causing a bad reading. Is the error intermittent or constant?

Interesting! You think a corroded connector could really cause all these symptoms? Where exactly should I be looking for this connector? Is it easily accessible, or will I need to remove other components to get to it?

Yeah, definitely worth a shot. On my BMW, it was right near the oil pan, pretty exposed to the elements. Check the wiring too, for any breaks or damage. Honestly, if you're not comfortable poking around, taking it to a workshop might be the best bet. They'll have the tools to diagnose it properly and replace the sensor if needed.

Thank you for the advice. I took your suggestion and had a mechanic inspect the connector. Turns out, it was indeed corroded, just like you suspected. They cleaned it, but ultimately had to replace the sensor due to internal damage. Total cost was 95€, but the issue is now resolved!
