Taurus System Malfunction After TPMS Install

Hey, I've got a 2010 Ford Taurus with a gasoline engine that's throwing codes. The malfunction indicator is on, and I'm seeing error messages both in the infotainment system and on the speedometer display. My OBD-II scanner points to a potential issue, but I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact cause myself.

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Ford Taurus experienced system malfunctions and error messages after a TPMS installation. The issue was traced to a coding problem likely caused by recent tire work. The suggested solution was to take the car to a workshop for recoding, which resolved the errors.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting. I own a Taurus as well. I faced something similar a while ago. Does the diagnostic scanner suggest any specific control module throwing the error? In my case, it turned out to be a coding issue. I remember when I got my windshield replaced, the mechanic messed something up with the electronics, and ever since then my car was throwing random errors. Have you, by any chance, had any recent work done on the car?

That's a good point, thanks. I did get the tires changed last week, and they were fiddling around with the TPMS. Could that be related, somehow? The scanner doesn't really point to a specific module – just a generic 'system malfunction' type of code. Any insight?

Yeah, that TPMS work could very well be it. From my past experience and what you are describing, it does sound like an issue with the vehicle's coding. Since you are getting generic errors with the speedometer and infotainment too, my suggestion would be to take it to a workshop. They have more sophisticated diagnostic tools and can probably recode the system correctly. Just make sure to tell them about the tire work that was recently carried out! Good luck with the repairs.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the TPMS install did mess with the car's coding. They recoded the system, and the error messages are gone. Cost me 360€, but at least it's fixed.
