Teana Rear Defroster Issue
Summary of the thread
The rear window defroster on a 2013 Nissan Teana was not functioning, and the windshield defroster was weaker than usual. Although the fuses were fine, the issue was suspected to be related to a relay or something more serious. It was suggested that a weak or defective battery could be causing the problem by disabling high-drain features like the rear defroster. Upon professional inspection, the battery was found to be heavily discharged and was replaced, resolving the defroster issue.

Thanks for the tip! I hadn't thought about the battery. How would a weak battery specifically affect the rear window defroster, though? It seems like it would either work or not work, not be impacted by the battery.

Well, in my case with the Astra, the system was detecting the low voltage and disabling certain high-drain features like the rear window defroster to conserve power. So, while the fuse was good and the heating coil was intact, the system simply wasn't allowing it to activate fully. Best to get it checked by a professional; you may need a new battery. And they can check for any parasitic drains while they're at it.

Okay, I took your advice and brought it to a mechanic. Turns out you were spot on – the battery was heavily discharged and needed replacing! Replacing the battery fixed the defroster issue. Cost me 290€, but at least it's sorted. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra. The error code and weak defroster point towards a possible battery issue. Have you checked the battery's voltage? A heavily discharged or defective battery can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins.
