Terra transmission oil temperature sensor issue

Hey, I'm having issues with my 2020 Nissan Terra (gasoline engine). It's got about 197k km on it. The engine warning light keeps popping up, and the error code points to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox is sometimes in emergency mode, shifts are getting sloppy and sometimes it feels like it's slipping, and I'm even hearing grinding noises when shifting. Could a low gearbox oil level really cause all this?

Sounds rough. Had a similar thing happen with my old Subaru Forester, though it wasn't exactly the same. Is it possible your gearbox oil level is too low?

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. Did your Subaru have similar symptoms to mine? I'm just trying to figure out if I can fix this myself or if I need to take it to a shop. What was the issue with the Subaru?

It did, actually. Warning lights, rough shifting. Turned out the oil was low. To be safe, I'd suggest checking the level and taking it to a workshop. It's probably the sensor but better to be safe than sorry. Don't want to wreck your transmission.

Thanks for the advice. I checked the oil level, it was fine. I took it to a shop and you were right, it was the sensor. They replaced the transmission oil temperature sensor. Cost me 365€. Runs like new now!
