Terracan Anti Theft Alarm Malfunction
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Hyundai Terracan diesel has an anti-theft alarm malfunction, with an error stored in the memory and the system non-functional. The issue might be related to the alarm system being coded to activate optical locking, which can cause conflicts. The suggested solution is to have the system checked and potentially recoded by a professional, as this resolved a similar issue for another owner.

No, it didn't behave erratically beforehand. Do you think it may be the alarm sensor then?

In my case, the alarm sensor didn't seem to be the problem. Have you checked the alarm system is coded to activate optical locking? Apparently, that coding can cause conflict. Honestly, after endless poking around I took mine to a workshop. Might save you a headache.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. Turns out the alarm system was indeed coded to activate optical locking. Repair cost 45€.

Interesting. I seem to recall having a similar fright with my Terracan. I suspected a power failure to the alarm control unit. Was the alarm behaving erratically before it stopped working? Perhaps randomly going off?
