Terracan Oil Temperature Warning Light

Hi, I have a 2005 Hyundai Terracan diesel with only 20428 km on the clock. Recently, the oil temperature warning light has been appearing, and I've also seen the oil pressure warning lamp light up a few times. I ran a car diagnostics tool, and it showed an error stored in the error memory related to the engine oil temperature sensor. Could a defective sensor cable or plug connection cause these symptoms?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2005 Hyundai Terracan experiencing oil temperature and pressure warning lights. The diagnostics tool indicated an error related to the engine oil temperature sensor. Potential causes include a defective sensor cable or plug connection. It is suggested to inspect the sensor for damage or corrosion and consider professional assistance due to the sensor's challenging location, with a repair cost estimate of around 95€.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Interesting! I had a very similar issue with my Terracan. Those symptoms - warning lights and the error code – sound very familiar. Have you checked the sensor itself for any visible damage or corrosion? Also, where did you source the diagnostics tool from?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the sensor itself yet, I'll definitely take a look for damage or corrosion. Where was the oil temperature sensor located in your Terracan, and was it difficult to access? Did you end up replacing the sensor?

On my Terracan the sensor was a pain to get to, almost underneath the engine. Access was very restricted. I wouldn’t recommend doing it yourself unless you are very confident. Given the symptoms and the error code pointing to the oil temperature sensor, and the relatively low cost, I'd suggest getting it checked out at a workshop. It could save you a lot of hassle.

Thanks for confirming, that's really helpful! I'll take your advice and book it in with a local mechanic. The estimated repair cost is around 95€, so hopefully, it's a straightforward fix.
