Terracan outside temperature sensor fault

Alright, so my 2003 Hyundai Terracan diesel is throwing a fit. The outside temp sensor is buggered. Error's stored, AC won't kick on, and even the spray nozzles are freezing up! Mirror heating's shot too. Reckon it's just a dodgy cable or plug?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Hyundai Terracan diesel is experiencing issues with the outside temperature sensor, leading to problems with the air conditioning, spray nozzles, and mirror heating. The likely cause is a faulty or corroded cable or plug, possibly due to exposure to road salt. The recommended solution is to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the issue, which in this case was resolved by fixing a corroded connector.

Hello there. I had a similar issue with my 2014 Opel Insignia. The outside temperature sensor, sometimes called the vehicle temperature gauge or vehicle temperature sensor, was malfunctioning. The car's computer uses this sensor to regulate several systems, including the air conditioning and heating. When it fails, it can cause the symptoms you described. Did you happen to check the sensor's location and if it's exposed to elements such as road salt, which may corrode the wires?

Cheers for the reply! Road salt is a good point, with winter and all. Where exactly IS the sensor located on these things? And is there any way to test it without fancy gear, or is it best left to the pros?

You are welcome. On my Opel, it was located behind the front bumper, which made it quite vulnerable. As for testing, without proper diagnostic tools, it's difficult to pinpoint the issue precisely. Given the symptoms and the potential for further complications, it might be prudent to consult a workshop. They could use specialized tools to accurately diagnose the fault with the car temperature sensor and perform any necessary sensor calibration. It proved to be the most reliable solution in my case.

Right, workshop it is then! Turns out it WAS just a corroded connector, like I suspected. 95€ later and she's all fixed!
