Terracan power loss hissing sound
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Hyundai Terracan diesel is experiencing significant power loss, rough engine performance, jerky acceleration, increased fuel consumption, and a loud hissing sound under acceleration. The suspected cause is a potential issue with the intake manifold flap control, possibly due to a defective switch affecting airflow. The suggested solution is to have the vehicle inspected and repaired at a workshop to address the airflow control issue.

Yeah, it's driving me nuts! The hissing is loudest under load. I read up on manifold flaps and their role in airflow control and engine performance. If the switch is busted, the flap might not be opening/closing properly, messing with the air intake and causing all sorts of havoc. Did you have the rough idling too? Any chance you remember what was causing it?

Okay, intake manifold flap, got it. Explains the hissing. Yeah, mine was idling rough as anything, like it was about to stall. Honestly, I couldn't diagnose it myself – too complicated. I just took it straight to the workshop. They sorted it pretty quick.

Right, workshop it is then. Thanks a bunch for confirming. Sounds like I'm on the right track at least. I'll get it checked out and let you know what they find. Looks like I might be looking at 465€ for the repair.

Whoa, reduced power and hissing? Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my Terracan. Jerky acceleration too, like the engine was struggling. Though, I never looked at the 'intake manifold flap control' myself... Where'd you get that idea?
