Terracan preheating lamp check engine light and smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Hyundai Terracan owner is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp not switching off, the check engine light being on, and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective glow control unit, possibly due to faulty cables or plug connections. A diagnostic test is recommended to confirm the issue, and if confirmed, professional repair is advised to prevent further damage.

Thank you for your reply. I am planning a diagnostic test shortly. Was the glow control unit the issue in your case? If so, can you give me more insight into the repair?

Yes, it was the glow control unit for me as well. If the diagnostic confirms that, I would advise you to go to the workshop. It could be a faulty cable or plug, but better to have it checked by a professional to avoid further damage or engine misfire.

Thanks for confirming. Will book a visit with my local mechanic. Faulty cable confirmed. Replacement including Diagnostic test came to 95€. Appreciate the help!

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Terracan – not sure what year, but also diesel. Check engine light and smoke pointed to a glow plug issue for me. Have you run a diagnostic test to confirm the error code?
