Terrano Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2007 Nissan Terrano with a diesel engine is experiencing poor starting, occasional stalling, and an illuminated check engine light. The issue is suspected to be related to the camshaft sensor, possibly due to a defective encoder wheel on the camshafts. An OBD scan confirmed the camshaft sensor as the likely cause. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle checked by professionals, who can evaluate both the sensor and the encoder wheel.

Yes, I scanned it and it points towards the camshaft sensor. I am just wondering if there could potentially be other causes, even with the error code pointing to it. Did you try replacing the sensor yourself, or did you take it to a workshop right away? Did they mention what they found faulty?

I would say that if the error code clearly indicates the camshaft sensor, it is very likely the culprit. When this happened to me, the workshop confirmed the camshaft sensor was indeed defective. I recommend getting it checked by professionals. It's best they evaluate the encoder wheel on the camshafts too.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I went to the workshop, and you were spot on; it was the camshaft sensor and indeed because of the encoder wheel. Final bill came to 695€. Appreciate the advice!

I had a similar issue with my Terrano. Rough starts, stalling sometimes, and the dreaded check engine light. It could well be the camshaft sensor as you suspect. Have you checked the error code with an OBD scanner? What code is being reported?
