Terrano engine power loss
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Nissan Terrano with a diesel engine experienced significant power loss and a persistent check engine light. The initial suspicion was a faulty throttle valve or accelerator pedal module. After consulting with others, it was suggested that the issue might be related to the throttle sensor, possibly being dirty or malfunctioning. The vehicle was taken to a workshop, where it was confirmed that the throttle valve was defective, and after replacement, the vehicle's performance returned to normal.

Thanks for the advice! When you say 'throttle sensor,' are we talking about the same thing as the accelerator pedal position sensor? And how would I go about checking if it's dirty?

Yeah, same thing! Sensor issues are pretty common. Honestly, cleaning it yourself can be tricky, and you might mess something up. Seeing as you're losing power, I would get it checked out by a workshop. Could be more serious than just a dirty sensor.

Appreciate the insight! I took it to a workshop, and it turned out the throttle valve was indeed defective. The replacement cost, including labor, was around 265€. Now she runs like new!

Throttle valve, huh? Check engine light usually means something's up with the air intake or airflow. Could be limp mode kicking in to protect the engine. Is the airflow normal? Maybe the throttle sensor is dirty. Have you checked that?
