Terrano Fuel Flap Fault

My 2000 Nissan Terrano diesel has developed a weird fault. The fuel flap release has stopped working. I get an error stored in the memory, and I can't lock or unlock the fuel filler flap. It's also affecting other systems; some functions are just unavailable. Mileage is 109408 km. Checked the key fob battery, that's fine. Any ideas before I start ripping things apart?

I had a similar issue with my Terrano a while back. Does it happen intermittently, or is it a complete failure? Have you checked the release mechanism itself, or any obvious wiring issues around the fuel door? Could be a simple electrical fault.

Thanks for the reply. It's a complete failure, not intermittent. I haven't started digging around the fuel door yet. When you had the problem, was it definitely an electrical fault, or could it have been the linkage?

In my case, it was definitely electrical; a faulty solenoid in the release mechanism. Given that other systems are affected, it does suggest a wider electrical issue. However, given the age of the vehicle it could well be the linkage. Check that first, but honestly I'd suggest getting a workshop to take a look before you end up chasing shadows.

Appreciate the advice. I'll check the linkage, but sounds like a trip to the shop is inevitable. They found a defective lock module. Cost me 210€ to get it sorted, but at least it's fixed.
