Terrano transmission issue

Hi, I'm having a weird issue with my 2004 Nissan Terrano diesel. It's done 170340 km. The transmission indicator light and check engine light are both on. The automatic transmission seems to be stuck in emergency mode; it’s not shifting smoothly at all. Feels like it slips or shifts uncleanly, and I'm hearing some grinding noises when it does shift. I scanned the error memory and it points to a radiator oil pressure defect. Could a defective cable or plug connection really cause all this? Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2004 Nissan Terrano diesel with 170,340 km is experiencing transmission issues, indicated by warning lights and rough shifting. The error memory suggests a radiator oil pressure defect, potentially caused by a defective cable or plug connection. After checking and replacing the cable and plug connection, the problem was resolved, restoring smooth transmission operation.

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, although it was related to the coolant temperature sensor, not oil pressure directly. The symptoms were almost identical: warning lights, weird shifting, and the gearbox acting up. Did you check the wiring and connectors around the radiator and transmission thoroughly?

Thanks for the tip! I visually inspected the wiring, but I didn’t go super in-depth. When you say 'check', what exactly did you do on your Astra? Did you measure anything, or was it just a visual inspection?

On the Astra, it turned out to be a corroded connector. I didn't measure anything myself, I brought it to a workshop. Considering the symptoms are so alike I'd suggest checking the plug connections and cables like the error message suggests. If that doesn't help it might be best to take it to a shop.

Okay, thanks! I appreciate the advice. I checked the connection and it seemed ok. I visited the workshop, they exchanged the cable and plug connection and now everything is working perfectly again! The final repair cost was 95€ Thanks again for the advice!
