Territory automatic tailgate hall sensor issue
Summary of the thread
The automatic tailgate of a 2005 Ford Territory is not opening fully, with a diagnostic scan indicating an error related to the tailgate hall sensor. The issue is suspected to be a bad connection, possibly due to a corroded connector near the tailgate motor assembly. It is advised to check the connections first, but professional assistance is recommended to avoid further damage or injury. Booking the vehicle into a workshop for a proper diagnosis and repair is suggested.

Thanks for the info! When you say connections, are we talking the plug right at the sensor on the tailgate motor, or should I be tracing wires further back into the car?

Okay, so in my case, it turned out to be a corroded connector right near the tailgate motor assembly. I'd advise checking that first. However, and this is important, I am not saying you should perform repairs yourself if you are not trained. Seriously, you could cause even more damage, or worse, injure yourself. To be honest, I eventually gave up and took it to a reputable workshop to get it sorted out properly. They identified and fixed the faulty wiring quickly.

Appreciate the advice. I poked around a bit, and while I could see the connector, it was awkward to reach. I'll take your advice and book it into the workshop to get looked at, thanks again. They are estimating 95€ to get it fixed.

Oh man, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my Territory. The automatic tailgate can be a real pain. From what you describe, it really does sound like a wiring issue related to the hall sensor. I remember having the same error code stored. Definitely check the connections first before assuming the sensor itself is bad, because the sensors themselves are usually pretty robust.
