Territory automatic transmission shifting issues

My 2016 Ford Territory diesel with 248k km has automatic transmission issues. Shifting is erratic, the transmission indicator light is on, and it sometimes refuses to shift, going into emergency mode. Could this be transmission oil related?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my Territory, although mine's a petrol. Those symptoms point towards potential transmission issues. Have you checked for any undervoltage in the system? That can sometimes mess with the electronic controls of the transmission.

Undervoltage? Interesting. I hadn't considered that. How did you figure out it was an undervoltage issue, and what kind of problems were you experiencing specifically?

The garage diagnosed it. Apparently, low voltage can cause all sorts of weirdness with the transmission's electronic controls, leading to those shifting problems. Best to get it properly checked out at a workshop; they'll be able to pinpoint the exact cause.

Thanks for the tip! I took it to a local mechanic, and turns out you were spot on. It was indeed an undervoltage issue causing the transmission to freak out. They flushed the transmission and sorted the voltage problem. Cost me 240€, but it's running smoothly again. Cheers!
