Territory transmission parking position issue

My 2015 Ford Territory (gasoline engine) with 238k km sometimes won't start, and the check engine light is on. The gearbox feels like it's slipping or shifting roughly at times. My mechanic found an error related to the transmission parking position and suspects a defective control unit. Anyone else experience this? Any ideas before I potentially shell out 1000€?

I had something similar happen with my Territory. Same symptoms, engine light, rough shifting. Have you checked the transmission sensor? It might be related to the gear shifter position.

Thanks for the quick reply! You mean a specific sensor related to the parking position? Or just any of the transmission sensors in general? Was it a simple fix?

Yes, the parking position sensor. I didn't fix it myself, took it to a shop and they confirmed it was faulty. It can cause the car to not recognize it's in park, hence the no-start issue. Get it checked properly, could save you a headache.

Appreciate the info! Sounds like I'll bite the bullet and take it to a proper transmission specialist. Thanks again for confirming I am not crazy.
