Thalia alarm system malfunction

Hi, I'm having an odd issue with my 2003 Renault Thalia (Symbol) with a gasoline engine. The alarm system seems to have stopped working entirely. I scanned for errors and found a siren communication fault stored in the error memory. I've checked fuses, but everything looks fine. From what I've read, it might be a defective cable or plug connection to the alarm controller itself. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I'm estimating a repair cost of around 95€, which seems reasonable if it's just a wiring issue. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Renault Thalia owner is experiencing a malfunction with the car's alarm system, which has stopped working entirely. An error scan revealed a siren communication fault, suggesting a possible issue with the cable or plug connection to the alarm controller. A suggestion was made to check the main connector to the siren unit for corrosion or loose connections. Ultimately, taking the car to a workshop for professional diagnosis and repair was recommended, which confirmed a faulty siren.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey! That sounds frustrating. I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra a few years back. The alarm would just randomly go off, or sometimes not arm at all. They also told me something about connection problems. Did you try checking the connections to the siren itself? Maybe give them a wiggle and see if anything changes?

Thanks for the suggestion! When you say "connections to the siren", do you mean where the siren unit plugs into the car's wiring harness? Or are there other connections I should be looking for? I'm not very familiar with the alarm system's layout.

Yeah, I meant the main connector to the siren unit. On my Astra, it was corroded and causing intermittent issues. Honestly, after messing with it myself for a while, I just took it to a workshop. They sorted it out pretty quickly. Might be worth considering if you're not comfortable digging too deep.

Appreciate the insight! Sounds like checking the siren connection is a good first step, but I'll probably end up taking it to a workshop like you did. It's good to know someone else had a similar experience. They confirmed the siren was faulty. The cost was exactly as estimated. Thanks again!
