Thanks for the info! That's really helpful. I did get some error codes, but I can't remember exactly what they were. I think something about the solenoids not working correctly. Does that sound like it matches your experience with the Opel?

The presence of solenoid-related DTCs indeed corroborates the suspicion of a defective transmission control unit. The Opel also exhibited solenoid-related errors, stemming from the control unit's inability to properly actuate them. Given the symptoms and the error codes, it is highly probable that the transmission control unit is the source of the malfunction. Proceeding to a qualified repair shop for a thorough diagnostic assessment and potential replacement of the unit is advisable.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local mechanic, and they confirmed it's the transmission control unit. Quoted about 1000€ for the replacement and programming. Gonna get it sorted next week.

Greetings. Your symptoms suggest a potential fault in the transmission control unit, as you suspected. The error code stored is consistent with that diagnosis. Similar symptoms, particularly the emergency mode and shifting issues, arose in a 2012 Opel Insignia I maintained last year. The root cause was traced to a defective control unit, rendering proper gear selection impossible. Were there any specific diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) present when the error memory was read?
