Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the throttle position sensor or the steering wheel controls specifically. How would I test those, and could a faulty connection there really kill the whole cruise control system?

Yes. A faulty connection or sensor within the cruise control circuit can disable the entire system as a safety measure. Given the complexity and your technical experience, it might be prudent to consult a qualified mechanic with diagnostic tools to pinpoint the exact source of the error. It could prevent unnecessary expenses due to misguided repairs.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. I booked it in and the mechanic confirmed it was indeed a defective cable connection. Repair cost was 95€. Sorted!

The cruise control system relies on several inputs to function correctly. Is it possible a defective cable or plug connection is responsible? Have you considered other potential causes such as the throttle position sensor or the steering wheel controls? It's important to investigate these before proceeding.
