Thalia Engine Start Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Renault Thalia with a diesel engine and 216,000 km on the odometer experienced a failure to start, with the engine not cranking despite the dashboard lighting up. The check engine light had been on for some time, suggesting a potential underlying issue. The problem was ultimately traced to a bad cable connection near the starter motor, which was repaired at a workshop, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, the engine doesn't crank at all. The dashboard lights up as usual, but there's no action when I turn the key. And yes, that check engine light has been on for a while now, but I thought it was just a minor thing. Any more ideas?

Yep, sounds very familiar! With the check engine light being on for a while, it could point to a more serious issue than just bad connections. It's probably best to take it to a workshop to get a proper diagnostic. They can check the ECU and the fuel injection system. Don't risk doing more damage yourself.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I took your advice and went to a workshop. Turns out it was indeed a bad cable connection, as I initially suspected, but not at the battery. A cable near the starter motor was bad. They fixed it for 155€. Now it works! Thanks again!

Hey! Sounds like a pain. I had something similar happen with my Thalia. Was also a diesel. Does the engine crank at all, or is it just completely dead? Also, have you noticed any check engine light or any other warning lights on the dashboard before it completely gave up?
