Thalia Overheating Slow Warmup
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Renault Thalia/Symbol diesel is experiencing engine overheating and slow warm-up. The issue may be due to a faulty temperature sensor or a defective thermostat, specifically the MAP thermostat, which controls coolant flow. The recommended solution is to have a professional mechanic inspect and potentially replace the thermostat to resolve the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't noticed any coolant leaks, and the fan seems to be running normally most of the time, but I'll keep an eye on it. What exactly was wrong with your car, and how did you fix it? Was it easy to do yourself? I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to car repairs, so I'm a bit worried about messing things up.

Turns out it was the MAP thermostat – the wax element that controls the coolant flow was shot. Think of it like a stuck door that's either wide open or slammed shut. I didn't dare to fix it on my own. I went to the workshop and they fixed it. My advice would be to take it to a workshop as well. Good luck!

Thanks a lot! It sounds like a defective thermostat is the most likely culprit. I'll take it to a trusted mechanic this week. I appreciate the help!

Hey! I had a similar issue with my Thalia/Symbol (though it's a bit older). It was like the engine was running cold all the time, and then suddenly overheating. Did you notice if the coolant level is dropping, or if the radiator fan is running constantly?
