Thalia PCV Valve Issue

I'm having a nightmare with my 2012 Renault Thalia diesel. The check engine light is on, the engine feels like it's lost power, and when I accelerate, there's excessive smoke. I suspect it's related to the crankcase ventilation, maybe the PCV valve? Has anyone experienced this?

Sounds like a classic PCV issue on those engines. Are you noticing any excessive oil consumption along with the smoke? Also, have you checked the breather hoses for cracks or collapses?

Oil consumption seems normal. I haven't specifically checked the breather hoses, but I gave them a quick look and didn't see anything obvious. Where should I be looking for cracks or collapses, and could that cause all these issues?

Yes, even a small crack in a breather hose can throw off the entire crankcase ventilation system, leading to your symptoms. Given the smoke and power loss, though, a faulty PCV valve is the more probable culprit. It's best to get it properly diagnosed; it could save you money. A workshop should be able to pinpoint it quickly.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a mechanic, and you nailed it – the PCV valve was faulty. 360€ later, and it's running well again. Appreciate the help!
