Thalia power steering problem

Hi, I have a 2000 Renault Thalia with a diesel engine. The power steering is acting up. The steering wheel vibrates, and the handling feels spongy. There's an error stored, and it's harder to steer, feels like the power steering sometimes just quits. Could a bad connection be the reason?

I had similar issues with my Thalia, though it was a few years newer. Felt like driving a boat sometimes. Any weird noises coming from the steering pump when you turn the wheel? Have you checked the electric steering connections? Maybe that's the place to start.

No weird noises that I can hear. Where exactly are the electric steering connections you're talking about? I'm not really sure what I'm looking for.

They're usually near the steering column, but honestly, it's a pain to get to without a lift. My issue turned out to be more complicated. I'd suggest getting it checked by someone who knows what they're doing before you start pulling things apart. I'm 95% sure it is electrical, but finding it is the challenge.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and it was indeed a faulty plug connection, just as you suspected. They fixed it for 95€. Steering is fine again.
