Thalia PTC Heater Fault

My 2001 Renault Thalia diesel (161841 km) has rough cold starts and high fuel consumption. Diagnostic tool points to the PTC heater. Suspect the electric auxiliary heater. Anyone dealt with this?

Those symptoms suggest a potential fault with the PTC heater, which assists in rapidly warming the engine and cabin in cold weather. Have you inspected the fuses and relays associated with the PTC heater circuit? A blown fuse or faulty relay can mimic the symptoms of a defective heater element.

I checked the fuses and relays with a multimeter, and they seemed okay. Is there a way to test the PTC heater element itself? Can I check the resistance, or is there a diagnostic procedure? Trying to avoid blindly replacing parts!

Given your preliminary checks and the persistent fault code, engage a qualified technician. Further diagnostics may require specialized equipment to accurately assess the PTC heater and its associated control circuits. Replacing parts without identifying the root cause may prove costly and ineffective.

Thanks! Taking it to a workshop. They think it's a faulty electric auxiliary heater and quoted around 350€ for the repair.
