Thanks for the tip! When you mention the wiring harness, do you mean the one running from the car body to the tailgate itself? And did you need to do any kind of sensor calibration afterwards, or was it just a straight wire repair?

Yes, exactly, the harness between the body and the lid. It bends every time you open and close the tailgate, so it is a common place for wires to break. And no, I didn’t need to do any calibration. Just fixed the wire, and it worked perfectly. But honestly, if you're not comfortable with electrical work, it might be best to take it to a workshop. You could cause even more damage!

It was the wiring harness! I found a broken wire and soldered it back together, and the tailgate works perfectly now. No calibration needed. However, I will go to the workshop anyway because I do not trust my soldering. They replaced the plug and charged me 95€ Thanks for the help!

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, although it was the trunk light not working. A hall sensor detects a magnetic field and they are often used in cars to detect the position of different parts. In my case, it turned out to be a broken wire in the harness that goes to the trunk lid. Have you checked the wiring harness for any obvious damage or corrosion? Maybe try wiggling the wires while someone tries to open the tailgate?
